From 2002 to 2006, Handschin carried out research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Harvard Medical School, before being appointed as an assistant professor of physiology and an SNSF professor to the University of Zurich in 2006. In 2009 he returned to the Biozentrum, where he works in research and teaching as a professor of pharmacology. 2013 European Research Council European Research Council Consolidator Grant.
