Christophe Yvan François Cadier is a lawyer and banking executive based in São Paulo, Brazil. He spent much of his career in the Alfa financial group, where he held senior legal and executive roles and later chaired the board of Banco Alfa. He also practiced as a partner at Noronha Advogados and served on the board of directors of FEBRABAN, the main representative body of Brazil's banking sector.
Background
Cadier's documented career developed in São Paulo, the center of Brazil's financial industry, and combined two strands: banking and law. Banking and legal work in the same financial groups became the core of his working life.
His career is closely tied to the Alfa group. The group's banking roots reach back to 1925, when Banco da Lavoura de Minas Gerais was founded in Minas Gerais. The bank was renamed Banco Real in 1972, and its controlling interest was sold to ABN AMRO in 1998, while the financial companies that were not sold later formed the Alfa Financial Conglomerate. Cadier has described more than thirty years of work with the Real and Alfa groups, which places his career within this shared history.
Education
Documented university study includes a banking degree from Fundação Getulio Vargas and a management degree from the Universidade de São Paulo.
Founded in 1944 in Rio de Janeiro, Fundação Getulio Vargas is a private foundation known for teaching in economics, business administration, and related fields. The Universidade de São Paulo was established in 1934 in São Paulo and became one of Brazil's leading public universities, offering a broad range of professional and academic programs.
Career
Cadier began his professional career with the Alfa group in 1999, working in several of its areas before taking on executive responsibilities. Over time he moved into legal leadership within the group's banking and brokerage operations.
He served as chief legal officer at Banco Alfa from 2009 to 2015 and held the same role at Alfa Corretora de Câmbio e Valores Mobiliários, a brokerage for foreign exchange and securities. In 2012 he became a statutory executive director responsible for private banking and wealth management, and for fund trust administration before the Comissão de Valores Mobiliários, Brazil's securities regulator. Earlier in his career he also held positions at Banco Real and Rabobank Brazil, the Brazilian operations of the Dutch cooperative banking group Rabobank.
His legal practice included work as a partner at Noronha Advogados, a São Paulo law firm founded in 1978 that handles international business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and contracts. The firm opened a European office in 1988 and a Chinese office in 2000, and it later established offices in Argentina, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He was also a partner at Christophe Cadier Advogados from 2016 to 2020 and later worked as counsel at Levy & Salomão Advogados.
In late 2019 he was invited to chair the board of Banco Alfa, a role he held until 2023. The bank was acquired by Banco Safra in November 2022, during the period of his chairmanship.
Membership
FEBRABAN is the main representative entity of the Brazilian banking sector, and Cadier's participation in it came through a seat on its board of directors during the 2020 to 2023 management term. He also took part in the advisory council of the Fundo Garantidor de Créditos, Brazil's guarantee fund for deposits and credits, which protects account holders when member institutions fail.
