He spent several years at the Arts Educational School, and later attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Artist
A former child actor, he is probably best known for his work as the footman Edward on the 1970s television series Upstairs, Downstairs, Billy Henshaw on the Yorkshire television sitcom In Loving Memory and also as an incompetent debt collector and golfer in Last of the Summer Wine. Beeny"s son, James, formed the band Virgin Soldiers in 2009 and has co-written a production that commemorates the 100th Anniversary of World War I. The production, The Dreamers, will be presented at the Assembly Hall Tunbridge Wells in October 2014. Beeny plays the role of The Storyteller in the production.
Beeny began his career at the age of six when he danced for the Ballet Rambert.
