This drama is based on a real event. In the early 1960s, an anonymous committee of ordinary citizens in Seattle selected kidney disease victims from a pool for an experiment with something new: a kidney dialysis machine. If the experiment worked, a small number of people would live instead of surely die from kidney failure.

Christopher Nelson Meeks was born on September 13, 1953, in Minneapolis, to George Nelson Meeks and Sidney (Young) Wear.
In 1976, Christopher Meeks received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Denver and a Master of Fine Arts in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 1983.
Christopher Meeks has been living in Los Angeles since 1977. He has taught English at Santa Monica College, and creative writing at CalArts, UCLA Extension, Art Center College of Design, and USC.
Christopher's fiction has appeared often in Rosebud magazine as well as other literary journals, and his books have won several awards. His short works have been collected into two volumes, “The Middle-Aged Man and the Sea” and “Months and Seasons.”
Meeks began as a playwright and has had three plays produced. Who Lives? A Drama is published. His focus is now on longer fiction. He’s published two comic novels, “The Brightest Moon of the Century” and “Love At Absolute Zero,” and two crime novels, “Blood Drama” and “A Death in Vegas.” He’s working on a novel based on the Iraq War. His unique literary sensibility ties them together–perhaps like the films from the Coen Brothers, directors who hail from the same state.
Christopher Meeks is known as the author of children's non-fiction books: Japan and Skydiving, and biographies of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Roald Dahl. Mr. Meeks has published two award-winning collections of short stories (The Middle-Aged Man and the Sea and Months and Seasons) and four novels (The Brightest Moon of the Century, Love at Absolute Zero, Blood Drama and A Death in Vegas).
His "Months and Seasons" appeared on the long list for the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award.

Quotes from others about the person

Grady Harp: "Meeks is a master craftsman."
Linda Hitchcock: "The only certainty about a Christopher Meeks novel is that the readers' senses will be delighted with his originality, superb writing, warmly sympathetic characters and clever plotting. A Death in Vegas neatly fits in the cozy mystery genre and becomes literary fiction in the hands of this deft wordsmith."
Carolyn Howard Johnson: "If the publishing and reading world is fair and just, Christopher Meeks is destined to be widely read and deservedly honored.
