His work consists of recording small sounds, quotes, and melodies from a film or television programme, and sequencing the sounds together to form a new piece of music Bertke is from Perth, Western Australia. On his September 2011 United States tour, Bertke was arrested and taken into custody for three weeks due to the lack of a proper work visa.
He is now prohibited from re-entering the United States until 2021.
In March 2014, Bertke abruptly deactivated most of his social media presence. In a blog post, he stated that social media has "become an unhealthy part of my life and a danger to the personal relationship I have with my work." Bertke explained that he was withdrawing from the public eye and would be selling his work "through digital stores.".
