Under his leadership, Beacon Economics became known as one of the earliest and most adamant forecasters of the subprime mortgage market meltdown in 2007. Thornberg is a native of Rochester, New New York He then attended the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management where he received his Doctor of Philosophy in Business Economics in 1997.
He first started his career as an economics professor at Clemson University.
Soon though, he moved back to University of California, Los Angeles where he researched under the university’s economic forecasting center. Thornberg has appeared on National Broadcasting Company’s The Today Show, American Broadcasting Company’s Nightline, Cable News Network, FOX News Channel, National Public Radio, and is regularly quoted in major national and California dailies including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Chicago Tribune.
