Christos Androutsos was born on January 7, 1869, in Cius, Turkey.
Christos Androutsos attended the Theological School of Halki (now the Halki seminary) and also studied at Leipzig University.
Christos Androutsos started his career as a professor at the Halki seminary in 1895. He left this post in 1897 and then worked as a Marasleion Teachers’ Training College in Athenes. In 1912 he took up a post of a professor of Dogmatic and Christian Ethics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and held it until his death in 1935.
Christos Androutsos published his first book The Concept of Evil in Plato in 1895. Later he wrote such books as Plato's Theory of Knowledge in Itself and in Relation to the Philosophers Before Him, Critique of the Fundamental Dogmas of Stoic Philosophy, System of Ethics and Dictionary of Philosophy.
Androutsos criticized the neo-Kantian reading of Plato popular among German philosophers of his times, stressing the ontological significance of the Platonic ideas. Again, Androutsos was the most characteristic representative of the philosophical ideas of the Greek Orthodox Church. An exponent of personalism in ethics, he aimed to provide a religious foundation for philosophical ethics. His Dictionary of Philosophy (1929) is a remarkable attempt to establish a philosophical terminology in modern Greek.
