He succeeded Efrain Jonckheer as leader of the party and minister-president of Netherlands Antilles in the mid-1960s. However, his government resigned and called new elections in the summer of 1969 as a result of strikes that degenerated into very serious rioting throughout Curasao. The Democratic Party was defeated in these elections, and some time later Ciro de Kroon gave up his party leadership.
