Claire McGuire is an American lawyer based in Boston, Massachusetts, admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1970. She served as a partner at Ropes & Gray, a Boston law firm founded in 1865, and holds a Bryn Mawr College bachelor's degree and a Boston University School of Law Juris Doctor.
Education
McGuire earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bryn Mawr College, which was founded in 1885 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, as a college for women. It was established in the period when American women were gaining access to higher education, and it became known for a demanding liberal arts curriculum.
She then studied at Boston University School of Law, which was founded in 1872 as the Boston Law School. From its early years the school admitted students regardless of race, gender, or religion, and it introduced a three-year course of study and an admission examination. McGuire received her Juris Doctor from the school in 1970, the same year she was admitted to the Massachusetts bar.
Career
McGuire was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1970, the year she completed her law degree. Her practice has been based in Boston, where she has worked on corporate and real estate matters.
Her principal firm was Ropes & Gray, which was founded in Boston in 1865 by John Codman Ropes and John Chipman Gray, both Harvard Law School graduates. After William Loring joined in 1878, the firm began shifting toward corporate law, and it later expanded its bankruptcy, labor, and financial reporting practices during the twentieth century. McGuire served as a partner there.
