He was born in Bergen. From 1787 he served as city manager in Bergen. He published the prize-winning play Hermine in 1772, a metrical tragedy.
Among his other works is the song Harmonisang from 1769, the essay collections Provinzialblade (1778–1781), and the magazine Provinzialsamlinger (1791).
