Career
In 1964 he opened Gundle Plastics producing 6 foot wide low density polythene sheeting for the packaging industry. In 1984 he sold gundle manufacturing systems, but retained his share in gundle lining systems which he founded in 1981, which was renamed Aquatan. Growth of the company exploded after government regulations in South Africa required double lining.
He sold the company in 1986 for the sum of $32.5 million.
Clifford Gundle now runs his family empire which includes manufacturing, investment-management and technology concerns around the world. Gundle has made many notable charitable donations including:
Patronage of the London Jewish Cultural Center.
Patronage of the National Theater. Patronage of the Cameri Theater Tel Aviv.
Charitable support of the V&A museum.
Endowment of the Courtauld Institute of Artist Deans council at the Harvard Kennedy Business School. Donation for the British Organization for Rehabilitation through Training. Clifford Gundle also made a donation of £1,750 in 2007 to Michael Gove.
