Discover the secrets to applying simple econometric techniques to improve forecasting Equipping analysts, practitioners, and graduate students with a statistical framework to make effective decisions based on the application of simple economic and statistical methods, Economic and Business Forecasting offers a comprehensive and practical approach to quantifying and accurate forecasting of key variables. Using simple econometric techniques, author John E. Silvia focuses on a select set of major economic and financial variables, revealing how to optimally use statistical software as a template to apply to your own variables of interest. • Presents the economic and financial variables that offer unique insights into economic performance • Highlights the econometric techniques that can be used to characterize variables • Explores the application of SAS software, complete with simple explanations of SAS-code and output • Identifies key econometric issues with practical solutions to those problems Presenting the "ten commandments" for economic and business forecasting, this book provides you with a practical forecasting framework you can use for important everyday business applications.

(This thoroughly revised second edition of an upper-level ...)
This thoroughly revised second edition of an upper-level undergraduate/graduate text describes many major techniques of forecasting used in economics and business. This is the only time series book to concentrate on the forecasting of economic data and to cover such a broad range of topics. The key features are: explains how to specify and evaluate simple models from the time series and econometric approaches; places special emphasis on the information that is derived from the evaluation and combinations of forecasts; discusses the topics of technological and population forecasting; includes an expanded chapter on regression techniques; presents a practical forecasting project which runs throughout the text; includes an appendix on basic statistical concepts.

(At all levels of a business organization, executives must...)
At all levels of a business organization, executives must be concerned with the present and future direction of the economy which means that economic forecasting is a critical task for them. Here is an attempt to trigger the adoption of a new attitude concerning the relationship between the executive and the economist and to foster a new outlook about what economics is (and is not) and what business should do with economics. In other words, it shows how business people can do their own economic planning and forecasting with greater accuracy than the ``pros''.

( The Description for this book, Spectral Analysis of Eco...)
I believe that I have helped introduce time-series models and approaches into economics. My work on spectral analysis was one of the first in the area. I have introduced a definition of causality that many find useful, have discussed the evaluation and combination of forecasts, and have applied time-series techniques to data from speculative markets.
I feel that my most significant contribution to date concerns co-integration and error-correction models, as this work brings together economic equilibrium theory ideas, time-series model specification, simultaneity and causality concepts.
