Simmons is currently the assistant defensive line coach for the Los Angeles Rams. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1991 and 1992. He led the NFL with 19 sacks in 1992 and finished his career 11th all time on the NFL sack list, with 121.5.
Simmons returned an interception for a touchdown against Jim Kelly and the Buffalo Bills in the 1996 NFL Playoffs.
He graduated from Western Carolina University. He played in the 1983 National Championship game.
