Began active career in railway construction work, later locomotive fireman. Machinist with Dayton Cash Register Company, then superintendent Gramm Motor Company, Bowling Green. Settled in Albuquerque, 1910, and served as alderman and mayor.
Founder of park system for Albuquerque, a zoological collection and municipal bathing beach. Elected governor of New Mexico, 1934, re-elected, 1936.
Served in Ohio National Guard. Mason. Elk.
