Clyde Leonard Briant, American Metallurgist, educator. Recipient Alfred Noble prize, 1980; named one of 100 Most OutstandingYoung Scientists in United States of America, Science Digest, 1984; overseas fellow Churchill College, Cambridge, England, 1987-1988. Fellow American Society Metals; member American Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum Engineers (Robert Lansing Hardy gold medal Metallurgical Society 1977, Rossiter W. Raymond 1979).


Briant, Clyde Leonard was born on May 31, 1948 in Texarkana, Arkansas, United States. Son of Clyde Leonard and Bonnie Barbara (Green) Briant.

Postdoctoral fellow University Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, 1974-1976. Staff metallurgist General Electric Company, Schenectady, New York, 1976—1994. Professor engineering Brown University, Providence, 1994—2000, Otis Randall professor, since 2000, dean engineering, 2003—2006, vice president research, since 2006.
