Originally from Nigeria, Momoh is an FGM and public health specialist at Guy"s and Street Thomas" National Health Service Foundation Trust in London, where in 1997 she set up the African Well Women"s Clinic, dedicated to caring for women affected by FGM. In 1999 Momoh worked as an adviser to the World Health Organization, and in 2001 represented the United Kingdom at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. In 2008 she was awarded an Administration Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to women"s healthcare, and an honorary doctorate from Middlesex University. She holds an Master of Arts from the University of London, and is an honorary lecturer there.
Momoh is the editor of Female Genital Mutilation (2005).
In the 2008 New Year"s Honours List Momoh was awarded the Administration Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to women"s health.
She is also a member of the British FGM national clinical group, established in 2007 to train health professionals in how to deal with the practice.
