Oldham Athletic
Hughes joined Oldham Athletic in May 2009 on a two-year scholarship. After playing for the youth and reserves, he made his first-team debut as a substitute in a 3–2 defeat to Rochdale in League Two match on 17 March 2012. Hughes was released by the club at the end of the 2012-2013 season, after mainly appearing for the reserve team and only managing to make a few substitute appearances for the first team during his time with the club
Hyde
On 31 May 2013, Hughes signed for Hyde on a one-year deal.
He made his debut for the club on 17 August 2013, coming on as a second-half substitute in Hyde"s 2–2 draw with Hereford United. He scored his first league goal for the club in their 5–2 home defeat to Wrexham on 28 December 2013.
He joined Halifax for 5K on 15 July 2015

Bradford Park Avenue signed Hughes on a month’s loan from Football Club Halifax Town in October 2015.
