In his approach to the texts of ancient Greek thought, Georgoulis used the hermeneutical method of Verstehen, and regarded philology as a foundational science for all the humanities. He edited and translated classical texts into demotic modern Greek. Further. Georgoulis was one of the first Greek philosophers in the twentieth century to make language the subject of philosophical inquiry, his themes deriving mostly from the German tradition. Again, he was responsible for introducing European trends, notably phenomenology and existentialism, to Greece.
