Served in army 1940-1941. Active in Cretan resistance against Nazi occupation, twice arrested and sentenced to death. After War, republished newspaper KYRYX. Member of Parliament for Chania 1946-1974^1977-;^ Under-Secretary of State for Finance, then Acting Minister for Communications and Public Works 1951. Minister for Finance 64, for Economics Company-ordination 1965. Arrested by military junta 1967, released, under house arrest, escaped and lived in exile. Returned to Greece 1974. F! Neoliberal Party; joined New Democracy Party 1978, Leader since 1984. Minister for Economics Company-ordination 1978-1980, for Foreign Affairs 1980-1981. Prime Minister of Greece since 1990.
