Fienhage attended the University of North Dakota where he played two seasons of National Collegiate Athletic Association college hockey with the University of North Dakota men"s ice hockey team
He is currently playing for the Atlanta Gladiators in the ECHL. Fienhage was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 3rd round (81st overall) of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He then played 2010-2011 season in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Kamloops Blazers before making his professional debut with the Portland Pirates near the end of the 2010-2011 AHL season. On October 4, 2011, the Rochester Americans signed Fienhage to an American Hockey League contract.
On July 22, 2013 the Orlando Solar Bears announced they had signed Fienhage to a contract for the 2013-2014 season.
In 63 games with the Solar Bears, Fienhage scored a professional high 15 assists and 17 points. On July 24, 2014, after leaving the Solar Bears as a free agent, Fienhage signed a one-year ECHL contract with the Toledo Walleye but was then traded to the Bakersfield Condors on October 15, 2014.
On January 11, 2015 was traded again to the Utah Grizzlies
Foreign the 2015-2016 season, he re-signed with the Grizzlies. After 47 games, he was traded to the Norfolk Admirals who traded him two days later to the Atlanta Gladiators without playing a game for the Admirals.
