Career
Van Quaelberg began his career in the service of the Dutch East India Company in Masulipatam, India, where he became Commander in 1652. He was transferred to the Cape in 1666. Two years later he fell out of favour and was fired in 1668 after lending help to a French fleet which he did not know was an enemy because news of the outbreak of war spread slowly.
His good name was later restored and he was promoted to Governor of Banda in East India.
Van Quaelberg died on 3 February 1687 in Batavia.
