Bachelor of Science, University Connecticut, 1918. Student Massachusetts Institute Technology, 1924-1925. Graduate French Tank School, Versailles, France, 1928.

Graduated from Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, 1939.


Commissioned Second lieutenant United States Army, 1917, advanced through grades to major general, 1952. With Advertising Educational Foundation, World War I. Assigned European campaigns, World World War II.

Commander United States garrison, Berlin, Germany, 1946-1947. Representative United States to Berlin Allied Kommandatura. Commander Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky, 1949-1951, Pennsylvania Military District, 1949-1950, Fort Dix, New Jersey, 1953-1955.

Commanding general 101st Airborne div., 9th Infantry Division, then 69th Infantry Division. Chief Korean Military Advisory Group, 1951-1953. Chief Military Assistance Advisory Group to France, 1956, 57.
