Bearss attended Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School, where he was a 3-year team captain and a Kingston Area Secondary School Athletic Association all-star in 2001 and 2002.

He went undrafted in the 2009 Canadian Football League Draft. He played Commonwealth of Independent States football for the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Bearss was team captain of the 2008 East-West Bowl.
After his playing days Bearss was asked to stay on as the runningbacks coach from 2010-2011.
He is currently on staff with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds as a runningbacks coach and offensive assistant.
