After retiring he became a noted sports official He also competed at the 1985 IAAF World Cup. He also had the 2000 meters American record for many years and was one of the most noted in that area.
Masback graduated from Yale Law School in 1994 and practiced sports law with Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering.
In 1997 he was hired as chief executive officer for United States of America Track & Field. He resigned in 2008 to become Director of Business Affairs for Nike"s Global Sports Marketing Division.
Masback joined National Broadcasting Company in 2012 to be an analyst for the middle and long distance events at the London Olympics.
Masback became United States Indoor champion in the mile run in 1980. He won two bronze medals in the 1500 metres at the American Automobile Association Championships, in 1978 and 1981, and another bronze medal at the 1985 Pacific Conference Games. His personal best times were 3:35.28 minutes in the 1500 metres, achieved in 1982, and 3:52.02 in the mile run, achieved in July 1979 at Bislett stadion in Oslo.
