Judge, Superior Court, 1903-1918. Association Justice, Supreme Court of the California, 1919-1931, Chief Justice, 1922-1927. Appointed Secy, of Navy by President Coolidge, 1924.

Organized Juvenile Court of Los Angeles and drafted several juvenile court laws of California State Chairman, Near East Relief. Appointed United States Circuit Judge, Ninth Circuit, May, 1929.
