Cuthbert Killick Norman Bardsley was the Anglican Bishop of Coventry from 1956 to 1976.

Background

He was born on 28 March 1907, the younger son of a Church of England canon.

Education

He was educated at Eton and New College, Oxford.

Career

Ordained Deacon in 1932, he began his career in the East End and was created Provost of Southwark in 1944. He became Bishop suffragan of Croydon in 1947, transferring to the more senior See of Coventry in 1956, a post he was to hold for 20 years.

Achievements

  • Bardsley was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1952, an honorary Doctor of Divinity of Oxford University in 1957, a Chaplain of the Order of Street John and an honorary Doctor of Letters of Warwick University in 1976.
