Dalrymple MAITLAND

Background

MAITLAND, Dalrymple was born in 1848 in Liverpool. Son of John Maitland, Editor and one of the Proprietors of the Liverpool Mercury, and Agnes, daughter of James Dalrymple, Isle of Manitoba (Canada).

Education

Studied at Private schools, Liverpool and Douglas. On leaving school went into business with William Dalrymple at the Union Mills, Isle of Man, as Woollen Manufacturer and Corn Miller. Retired from business, 1887.

Career

Elected to the House of Keys as one of the members for Middle Sheading, 1890, and has represented same constituency ever since. Chairman of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Ltd. The Isle of Man Railway Company.

And the Tsle of Man Banking Company Ltd. Director of the Liverpool Daily Post and Mercury. Justice of the Peace; C.P.; Speaker of House of Keys since 1909.
