He was awarded an all-conference selection in 2012 and an honorable mention in 2011, Sawyer was also a Lions All-Star member. He is 6" 4" and weighs in at 200 lbs. He played for the Waconia Wildcats from 2008-2011 and for the Minnesota Blizzard in 2011.
He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins major league team in the 2015 MLB draft.
His interests include hunting and archery. He is enrolled in the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
Sawyer was born November 22, 1993 in Waconia, Minnesota to Duane and Kathy Sawyer, with two younger siblings. In high school he played football and was a quarterback, LHP in baseball, and also played basketball.
Sawyer played high school varsity Baseball for the Waconia Wildcats as a left handed pitcher, and was forced to give up playing basketball and football to play for the Minnesota Blizzard traveling baseball team during high school.

Sawyer currently plays for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers as an LHP. He is a sophomore at Minnesota and beginning his second year of play as the starting pitcher for the Gophers. Ralston was placed under critical condition, and Sawyer was diagnosed with a broken rib, collapsed lung, and concussion. Sawyer was projected to make a full recovery, but Ralston"s recovery was uncertain.
Ralston has made a remarkable recovery and is doing very well, it is unknown whether he will continue his baseball career.
Sawyer graduated high school with a 3.6 grade point average, as well as being a member of the National Honor Society.
