Damian Patrick George Hinds is a British Conservative Party politician and the Member of Parliament for the East Hampshire constituency.
Education
Hinds was educated at Saint Ambrose College, a Voluntary Aided Roman Catholic Grammar school in Altrincham in Cheshire, followed by the University of Oxford, where he attained a first class degree, and was president of the Oxford Union Society while there.
Career
He is Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury. Hinds was chairman of the Bow Group in 2001-2002. He stood in the Stretford and Urmston constituency during the 2005 general election, coming second to incumbent Member of Parliament Beverley Hughes, gaining 30.4% of the vote (an increase for the party of 33%).
The previous Conservative Member of Parliament, Michael Mates, stepped down at the 2010 General Election.
He sat on the Select Committee between 2010 and 2012. Parliament lists Hinds" political interests as education, welfare, affordable cr, and social mobility.
Politics
In the 2010 General Election Hinds was elected as the Member of Parliament for East Hampshire getting 56.8% of the vote (an increase of 97%) and achieving a swing from the Liberal Democrats to the Conservative Party of 6.6%.
