CROWTHER, Dandeson Coates Archdeacon of the Niger Delta Pastorate Church was born on September 24, 1844 in Fourah Bay College, Freetown, Sierra Leone. Son of late Right Reverend S. A. Crowtlier, Bishop of the Niger Territory.

Studied at The Church Missionary Society Lagos Grammar School, W. Coast Africa; Master of Surgery College, Islington, London; Catechist Master of Surgery, Niger, 1866-1870.
Deacon 1870 by Bishop Crowtlier, under commission of the Bishop ol London, at St. Mary’s Parish Church, Islington, London, 1870. Priested by Bishop Cheetham at Christ Church, Lagos, 1871. Made Archdeacon of the Lower Niger in 1876 under the Church Missionary Society till 1891, when the Delta Pastorate self-supporting Church was formed under his leadership, and of which he is still the Archdeacon.
Through him six iron churches were contributed for by the native congregations of the Delta Churches, ordered from England, and built in the various stations—viz., St. Barnabas’, Tuwon, Brass, cost about £1000. St. Luke’s, Nembe, Brass, about £950.
