Daniel Christopher Boyer is an American surrealist artist, writer, photographer. He is best known for his drawings using the surrealist method of entopic graphomania, for his gouaches, and for his use of unusual artistic media.
Background
Ethnicity:
Daniel was of German, English, French, Scottish, Scotch-Irish, Romanian, Hispanic, Portuguese ancestry.
Daniel Christopher Boyer was born on November 2, 1971 in Hancock, Michigan, United States. He was the son of Hugh Eisenhart and Gretchen Elizabeth (Glazier) Boyer.
Education
Boyer attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, United States, playing broomball at that time. He was named an Honorary Alumnus of The Johns Hopkins University in 1991. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and History from Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts, United States in 1997. Then he studied Two-Dimensional Mixed Media at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States.
Career
Boyer taught electric toothbrush painting in Marquette, Michigan, United States. He made his first entopic graphomanias, the types of drawings for which he would become best known, in 1998.
Having already produced many works with gouache applied conventionally, he would later more often dilute gouache with Coca-Cola and even Diet Coke than water. But he would also employ many other unusual media, including (undecoded) invisible ink, insect bite relief stick and even something more commonly used by spies and terrorists, an exploding pen.
Heavily involved in mail art, he has served as Chief Executive Officer of the International Union of Mail Artists. Boyer moved to New York in 2012. In three years he and his wife Sílvia Maria Ramos Soares founded The New York Boyer Foundation.
Boyer seemed to alternate between Idealist and Irrealist views, but what he was consistent in was his vehement, even angry, anti-realism. Much of his work both in writing and in the visual arts consists of little more than redundant and even boring anti-realist propaganda.
