Career
In 2002, Knapik was elected to the city council from Ward 2 and ran for Mayor of Westfield in the city"s 2009 municipal election after defeating incumbent Michael Boulanger and was sworn-in on January 4, 2010. Since then, Knapik was re-elected unopposed in 2011 and narrowly defeated challenger Michael Roeder in 2013. On January 1, 2015 he announced that he would not seek re-election to a fourth term and will instead seek one of the seven City Council at-large seats.
On November 9th, 2015, Knapik resigned as mayor when Governor Charlie Baker appointed him as director of green communities with the state Department of Energy Resources.
