Daniel D. Pearlman was born on July 22, 1935, in New York City, New York, United States. He was a son of Hyman Pearlman and Sallie (Gerschgal) Pearlman.
In 1958, Daniel received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brooklyn College. Later, in 1967, he got a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University. Later, in 1968, Pearlman received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the same educational establishment.
In 1959-1965, Daniel served in the United States Army Reserve. During the period from 1976 till 1980, Pearlman held a post of a chair of English department at the University of Idaho, in Moscow. In 1980, he was appointed a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, a post he had held for the next twenty-five years.
During his lifetime, Daniel taught at many other educational establishments, including Brooklyn College in New York City, Long Island University in New York City, University of Arizona in Tucson, Monmouth University in West Long Branch, University of Seville in Spain, Lehman College in New York City.
In 1995, Pearlman founded and edited the newsletter "Council for the Literature on the Fantastic", which promoted a wider acceptance of fantasy literature.
Moreover, Daniel contributed his short stories to literary journals and science fiction magazines and anthologies.
