Daniel Brink Towner, American composer.

Background

Towner, Daniel Brink was born on March 5, 1850 in Rome, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of John Griffin and Julia (Forbes) Towner.

Education

Educated Rome (Pennsylvania) Academy. Studied music with his father, and later under George F. Root, at the National Normal Institute. Studied voice under John Howard, F. W. Root and others.

Bachelor of Music, Harriman University, 1898.

Career

Began as music teacher and chorus leader at Binghamton, New York, 1873. Went to Cincinnati, 1882. Joined Dwight L. Moody as soloist and musical director, 1884.

Organized music course, 1893, and director same, Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, since 1893. Also music director Moody Church Editor (music books): Tone Temple, 1882. Temperance Evangel, 1883.
