Began newspaper work, Saint Louis Union, 1851, bookkeeper and general manager, 1854-1862, became proprietor, 1862. Business and financial manager, Missouri Democrat, 1862-1872. Founded Saint Louis Globe, July 1872, which was consolidated with the Democrat, 1875, as the Globe-Democrat, of which became president and general manager Delaware-at-large and chairman Missouri delegation Republican National Convention, 1900.
