Daniel S. Evans is an American lawyer whose career has centered on corporate law, particularly mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions. He earned degrees from Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School, was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1985, and spent many years as a partner at Ropes & Gray before joining American Industrial Partners in 2024.
Education
Evans completed his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1981 magna cum laude with distinction in economics. He was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Dartmouth, founded in 1769 in Hanover, New Hampshire, is one of the nine colonial colleges established before the American Revolution, and its undergraduate liberal arts tradition gave economics a place within a broad curriculum.
He then attended Harvard Law School, where he received a Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 1985. Founded in 1817, Harvard Law School is among the oldest law schools in the United States, and its case-based legal instruction shaped American legal education in the twentieth century. Evans was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1985, the same year he completed his law degree, which qualified him to practice law in Massachusetts.
Career
Evans was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1985 and went on to a career in corporate and transactional law. He was a partner of S Eggeuno.
He became a partner at Ropes & Gray in 1994. The firm was founded in Boston in 1865 by two Harvard Law graduates, John Codman Ropes and John Chipman Gray. It adopted its permanent name in 1961 and opened offices in Washington, D.C. in 1981, in Providence in 1985, and in New York in 2000, reflecting its expansion beyond Boston during the late twentieth century. At Ropes & Gray, Evans co-headed the firm's global client program and its private equity industry group. His practice centered on mergers and acquisitions, and his regular clients included private equity investors such as Bain Capital and Kohlberg & Co.
In 2024 Evans left Ropes & Gray to join American Industrial Partners as a partner on its investment team, where he is responsible for transaction sourcing, underwriting, and execution. Founded in the late 1980s and based in New York City, American Industrial Partners is a private equity firm that focuses on control investments in North American manufacturing and industrial service businesses. His move from a law firm to an investment team places his transactional experience within the private equity sector.
