(With widely varying characters and plots, these seven sho...)
With widely varying characters and plots, these seven short stories describe everything from a Czech girl coming of age to an Imperial Chinese chef who is increasingly unable to be truly creative and venture beyond his previous experiences. The common thread running through the tales is the idea that one must accept one’s emotions and desires as being real, and embrace the imagined only as a way to find and express one’s true self.

Daniela Fischerová was born on the 13th of February, 1948 in Prague, Czech Republic, the daughter of Jan F. Fischer.
Daniela graduated from Filmova Akademie Muzickych Umeni, a famous film school in Prague, in 1971.
Daniela Fischerová started her career as an author of stage plays, screenplays, radio plays, television plays, and short stories. She was an editor for Orbis, a staff member at Prague Broadcasting. Daniela also served as a lecturer at the Academy of Creative Writing in the Czech Republic.
Although Daniela's plays have been staged around the world to considerable acclaim and several have been published, her career as a writer was not easy. Fischerová’s debut was in 1978 with “Talking with a Fox”. Her first play, “The Hour Between the Dog and the Wolf” came out in 1979. The theater revolted, however, by staging four performances, the last of which was shut down by police amid a great deal of tumult. Subsequently, Fischerová was banned from staging or publishing her work for eight years.
Fischerová's first collection of short fiction for adults “Fingers Pointing Somewhere Else” appeared in 1995. Daniela is also an author of plays The Massage Table and The Lights Are Playing a Game and a contributing editor of Ecrivains tchèques Sur la tolérance in 1994. She published stories in anthologies Daylight in Nightclub Inferno: Czech Fiction from the Post-Kundera Generation, edited by Elena Lappin in 1997, All skin and Other Tales by Contemporary Czech Women in 1998 and was a contributor of essays and articles to newspaper Lidove Noviny.
