He went on to study Sanskrit and Tamil and Indian philosophy. He was a student of Ron Inden at the University of Chicago. He taught the history of ancient India for 15 years at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
He lead an annual tour to southern India for Far Horizons Archaeological and Cultural trips He also freelances for several other organizations.
