In 1900 he entered Princeton University as a student in architecture, was graduated four years later, afterward continued his studies for five additional years at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.
From the start of his career in Chicago Mr. Adler devoted his attention to residence work. He designed many private homes and apartment houses in the city’s suburbs, particularly on the North Shore, also examples of his work were known on both the east and west coasts of the United States, and in Honolulu. In the city of Chicago his outstanding achievement was the row of houses facing Lincoln Park, just south of the Elks Memorial, in which was demonstrated his success in dealingfreshly with traditional styles and conventional forms. During the Greater part of his career Mr. Adler worked alone, except for 11 years between 1917 to 1928 when he was associated with Robert Work.
Shortly after his death, an editorial appeared in the Chicago Tribune of October 3rd, 1949, in praise and commendation of Mr. Adler’s work, of which the following is an excerpt, He was a residential architect of great distinction whose taste in the decorative arts was unequalled in his time.”
