He is best known for carving totem poles. His four Tsimshian names include one meaning "First to Potlatch" and one meaning "He Who Works with the Cedar."
He was trained in Northwest Coast art by Jack Hudson. He received a Bachelor of Surgery from Seattle Pacific University in Seattle in 1974.
He has carved over 65 totem poles.
He is a member of the Laxsgiik (Eagle clan).
