David Allyn is an American author and educator. He is the former CEO of the Oliver Scholars and the former Director of Education of NJ SEEDS. Nowadays David is Vice President of Graham-Pelton Consulting.
Background
David Allyn was born on April 30, 1969, in New York City, New York, United States. He is the son of Ronald Levine Smith and Janet (Weil) Wallach. Allyn is the stepson of John Wallach, who is the founder of the nonprofit organization Seeds of Peace. He has a brother Michael Wallach.
Education
Allyn graduated from the Georgetown Day School in Washington. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University in 1991. Later, in 1996 he got a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Harvard University.
David Allyn began his career as a lecturer at Princeton University in 1996-1999. At the same time Allyn served as a board member of Seeds of Peace. In 1999 David became a director of public policy projects of Prep for Prep.
In 2014 Allyn was named CEO of The Oliver Scholars Program and in February 2016 he was elected to the Board of Trustees of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). He is also a former Director of Education of NJ SEEDS. Nowadays David is a Vice President of Graham-Pelton Consulting. As an expert on the 1960s, Allyn has appeared on Vh1 and The History Channel.
David is the author of four books. During his study at Brown University, David Allyn co-authored with Jennifer Wilcha a book on transferring from one college to another. Allyn was also a contributor to To Be Real, edited by Rebecca Walker in 1995. His journal articles, essays, reviews, and editorials were published in the Journal of American Studies, New York Daily News, Boston Globe, Trenton Times, Washington Post, Tikkun, and Boston Book Review. In addition to his books, Allyn has authored several highly-acclaimed plays.
Achievements
David Allyn is the author of many popular books, including Make Love, Not War and I Can’t Believe I Just Did That. His play Writers Colony appeared in the 2009 Fresh Fruit Festival in New York City, and Baptizing Adam won the James H. Wilson Award for Best-Full Length Play.
Allyn's play Commencement was selected for the 2010 Baltimore Playwrights Festival and play Punctuated Equilibrium received a staged reading by the Hangar Theatre Laboratory in Ithaca, New York in July 2010.
