He wears the number 12 guernsey and plays most of his football in defence, but he can play in the forward line. Originally from Tatyoon in western Victoria. He played his junior footy with young gun Daniel Todd at the Ararat Western Warriors.
Astbury was drafted to Richmond from the North Ballarat Rebels in the TAC Cup with the 35th selection in the 2009 American Federation of Labor-Congress Draft.
He attended Caulfield Grammar School as a boarding student for two years. Astbury made his American Federation of Labor-Congress debut in Round 4, 2010 against Melbourne.
He had seven disposals (six kicks and one handball), took three marks, had one tackle and kicked three goals. He was one of the better players for the Tigers who lost by 55 points.
In September 2014, Astbury signed a two year deal that keeps him contracted to Richmond until at least the end of 2016.
