To experiment with missionary work among the Indian tribes beyond Lake Erie by Connecticut Missionary Society, 1800. Missionary on Mackinac Island, worked among Ojibwa Indians, 1801-1805. Returned to Connecticut, circa 1805, contracted with Benjamin Tallmadge to establish a community in Western Reserve area, built log cabins, surveyed and plotted Town of Tallmadge (O.), 1807.
Had set up a church by 1809, forced by financial difficulties to return to Connecticut
