In creative writing from Miami University of Ohio, and his Doctor of Philosophy in American literature and creative writing from University of Cincinnati.
Bell earned his Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University Bloomington, his Master of Arts Bell began publishing stories in 2002. His early work appeared in numerous journals including Cemetery Dance, Western Humanities Review, and Backwards City Review. His first two novels— and —were released in hardcover and trade paperback by Delirium.
Bell edited an anthology of short fiction called Commutability: Stories about the Journey from Here to There (2010), which was published by Main Street Rag and includes work by a group of diverse writers including Editor Gorman, Thomas F. Monteleone, Faye Moskowitz, and Sandra Scofield.
Publisher’s Weekly called Cemetery Girl "disquieting and suspenseful" and Suspense Magazine called it "brilliantly engaging, and a must-read for thriller fans." The Hiding Place was released by New American Library in October 2012 Never Come Back was published in October 2013 by New American Library., and The Forgotten Girl in October 2014. In addition to his career as a novelist, Bell is an Associate Professor of English at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
He has previously taught at Miami University in Ohio and Saint Andrews University in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Nashville filmmaker James Weems shot a short film called “Caitlin’s Story” that serves as the book trailer for Bell’s Cemetery Girl.
