Career
After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Toronto in 1998 he devoted himself to jazz. He formed the "David Braid Sextet" the following year. His albums Mnemosyne"s March, Zhen: The David Braid Sextet Live, and Brubeck Braid: twotet/deuxtet have also been nominated for Juno Awards.
In 2014 Braid collaborated with Sinfonia United Kingdom Collective.
In summer 2015 he will tour with the group in the United Kingdom and Canada as part of a project funded by Arts Council England / National Lottery and University of Hull. Braid"s approach to work with Sinfonia United Kingdom Collective was the focus of a paper on democratic authorship that was presented at the Reflective Conservatoire Conference in February 2015 (Guildhall School of Music and Drama).
In that paper, Doctor Lee Tsang of University of Hull offered models of democratic authorship and used Braid"s work as an example of one of a number of approaches that the Sinfonia United Kingdom Collective (formerly Hull Sinfonietta) has undertaken since 2004.
