He studied in the studio of Jean-Jacques Delusse and in 1808 traveled to Paris to study in the studio of Philippe-Laurent Roland.
His sculpture includes the pediment of the Pantheon in Paris, showing French leaders since the Revolution; series of monuments, including Gutenberg (Strasbourg) and Jefferson (Washington, D. C. ); and the many portrait medallions and busts that are assembled in the David Museum at Angers.
