When he left the Home Office, he became a Fellow of Street John"s College, Oxford (1992–1999), before being appointed as a Senior Research Associate at University of Oxford. He led the United Kingdom"s delegation to the United Nations Congresses on Crime and Criminal Justice in 1985 and 1990. In 1985 he was appointed Order of the Bath (Central Bank).
Membership
He was a member of the United Nations Committee on Crime Prevention and Control, and of the Helsinki Institute for Crime Prevention and Control during the 1980s. He is, or has been, a trustee, member of council, or adviser to several voluntary organisations concerned with law reform, community safety and opportunities for young people.
