David Freund studied at the University of California at Berkeley in 1955-1956, then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from the University of California at Davis (1963) and an Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Visual Studies Workshop (SUNY) in Rochester, New York (1971).
A Dayton-Hudson Distinguished Visiting Teacher/Artist at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, Freund has been teaching photography as an adjunct professor at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn since 1971 and as an assistant professor at Ramapo College in Mahwah, New Jersey, since 1973. He has also been in-volved in several summer workshops, including the Center of the Eye in Aspen, Colorado, and the Maine Photography Workshops in Rockport.
