David Grant Commander of the Order of the British Empire, FREng, FIET is a British academic who was the Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff University in Wales from 2001-2012.

Education

Since his appointment in 2001, Doctor Grant has overseen the merger between Cardiff University and the University of Wales College of Medicine, which was completed in 2004, and the awarding of University Status to Cardiff.

Career

He is a Vice-President of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He gained his Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Science from Durham University in 1974.

Achievements

  • Prior to his appointment at Cardiff University, Doctor Grant was Director of Technology at General Electric Company plc (1991–2001) and was awarded the Mensforth International Gold Medal by the Institution of Electrical Engineers, now The Institution of Engineering and Technology , in 1996.

Membership

He is a governing board member of the Technology Strategy Board. He is also a former council member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and is a Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge.
