(The Jews of the Dispersion During the Period Between the ...)
The Jews of the Dispersion During the Period Between the Testaments. WE- are interested in the ancient history of the Jews, because this history is the gjjl principal story of the true religion. The Jews were the Covenant People of the One Living and True God, and God chose them as the special medium through which to reveal Himself to mankind. They had a genius for religion, just as the Greeks had a genius for art and literature and the Romans a genius for government. A peoples genius is their equipment for service in the world. It accords with the use which God makes of them. God works naturally in the realm of Providence. One would think that God would make choice of the biggest people of the world for the cause of religion; but no, He chooses the smallest and He chooses them because they have a genius for religion. Andrew Lang says: One tiny people for religion ;and we might add, one tiny land i. e., Palestine in which that tiny people may work out their grand mission. (This book was originally published prior to 1923, and rep...)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

David Gregg was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to David and Mary M. Gregg on March 25, 1846.
He attended public schools until the age of thirteen when he attended Allegheny City College and at fifteen years enrolled in Washington and Jefferson College graduating in 1865. Next he graduated from the Iron City Commercial College in Pittsburgh in 1866.
Gregg later received the degree of Doctor of Divinity from the New York University in 1888. He later became pastor of Park Street Church in Boston on February 1, 1887 until 1890. In 1892, to mark the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas, he preached a sermon series in Brooklyn honoring the contributions of "our American foremothers" and "our African American forefathers." After leaving Brooklyn, he became president of Western Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Gregg married Kate Etheridge in New York in 1871 and they had several children.
Gregg"s family traces its ancestry directly back to the Scotch Covenanters of 1638. Gregg considered himself an abolitionist and delivered his first public speech in support of the Emancipation Proclamation.
During Lee"s invasion into Pennsylvania, Gregg enlisted as an "emergency man" in Camp Howe to replace Union troops heading to Gettysburg. Gregg died in 1919.
